Using an Annoyance for Productivity
April 17th, 2010, 10:12 pm
My wife went to bed before I did and needed me to remember to put the wet clothes in the dryer so they'd be dry for church.
I wanted to make sure I'd remember so I avoided writing myself a note or putting a reminder on my phone or laptop. It's either from feeling lazy or efficient, but the simple thing that came to mind? It turns out it's an annoyance of mine (and my wife's)... leaving a light on. We don't like to increase our energy bills for no reason, especially when we aren't in or using a room (so what's the point in leaving the light on).
Anyway, the simple "reminder" solution for me was to leave the light on. There's no way for me to forget about it. I mean, like most people, we like to sleep in the dark so leaving a light on kind of hampers that.
Did it waste a little energy? Absolutely (for about 20-30 minutes). Was it worth it? You better believe it.
I'll have to think about this more in-depth this coming week.
How can I use an annoyance for being more productive?
How about you? How have you turned an annoyance into a helpful reminder or to get a task done?
